NECWA in the Community
The New England Coastal Wildlife Alliance - NECWA is an environmental organization based in southeastern Massachusetts that conducts research on coastal marine wildlife and
participates in educational outreach in the New England community. Projects like NEBShark and the Marine Wildlife Research Project allow NECWA staff to study the unique marine wildlife that live and feed off coastal New England. NECWA shares the results of these studies with local organizations and with interested members of the public.
By combining research with educational outreach, NECWA can more effectively increase public awareness to the issues that threaten our coastal marine habitats and the species that live there.
To foster greater public awareness and involvement, NECWA participates in a variety of educational outreach activities that includes: waterfront festivals, beach clean-ups, high school symposiums, public lectures, community conferences and workshops. NECWA also provides internship opportunities to both high school and college students exposing these
“scientists in training” to research techniques and methodologies in the field of marine science. Student interns also gain experience in public speaking by presenting oral and poster presentations at conferences and workshops as well as providing more public lectures to the community.
In the navigation bar to the left, you can click to read about some recent activities that NECWA has been involved with in the New England area. Some involve water quality assessment and measurement while others involve providing educational programs to the public. Check back soon for we will continue to add to this list as we begin our 2008 season.
